Green acres, it’s the place for me

Whoa...that's one big ole' pooch! And to think we'd have to water. Heck, Buddy can tackle the job in no time at all. And there's lots more watering to be done. Moments before seeds were scheduled to fly onto/into the backyard, we decided to get a quote for sod. Turns out it wasn't nearly as much as we expected. And while folks across Indy and the nation were bemoaning the days-old raid on IFCO Systems -- the national firm that makes pallets, including their Indy operation -- and the pending deporatation of illegally documented workers, you can see that at least one Indy employer wasn't affected. And thank goodness, or we'd be waiting forever for a bunch of gringos to do in several days what this crew did in one hour! In just 60 shorts minutes these hard-workin' hombres prepped and laid 6000-square-feet of sod. But they left the watering up to us...and Buddy...

It's not easy being green and green and green and...

I never really thought green was my favorite color. And if you ask my nephew, Liam, he would tell you my favorite color is really pink. But green seems to be popping up all over Dekoven Drive. Not necessarily with great intentionality, but certainly in large quantities.

It started with the color for the kitchen. Red is really my favorite decorating accent color, but because of the cherry-colored cabinets I was afraid it wouldn't be a good choice. So I went with sage. Since the family room connects to the kitchen that, too, had to be sage. And check out our new counter top style table! (double click on the photo to enlarge)

Next it was time to think about the bathrooms. Since sage is in the kitchen a lighter shade of green went in the powder room and a darker shade in the guest bathroom upstair...kind of a mossy green. The guest bathroom looks great in person even though the kids will tell you it is more like Army green and hate it.

Oh well, too bad for them. The powder room is quite smaller so a lighter color of green was chosen. The first color green was a little too much like lime sherbet, so the room was actually painted twice before I liked it.

I can't exclude my latest project: Watering the new sod. I hate watering sod. Each night I slip and slide down the lawn and get feet full of clay mud and even worse, terrible looking socks! Every night after work I go into my routine of moving sprinklers for several hours to get every piece of sod soaked. Hopefully we will start seeing some growth so that mowing can become John's job and mine will be over.

What's next? Well of course more green. We're having the backyard hydroseeded very soon. Time to get back to watering. Yuck!

Holey Week comes to Dekoven Drive

As Christians around the globe journey from the cross to the empty tomb this Holy Week, the Found In Fishers gang offers their own bit of that old-time religion...HOLEY WEEK. No typo here, gang. This morning as we gobbled up breakfast a wet spot appeared above the kitchen table...and it grew. Soon drops of water began drip, drip, dripping down. Our own little bit of stigmata just in time for Good Friday? We're not that miraculous. No, these marks come courtesy of an over zealous electrician who seems to have drilled a bit to far and went through a floor joist into the drain pipe for the guest bathroom on the second floor.

man Cameron, Ryland's construction manager at Tanglewood, was knocking on the door before anybody could say, "Pass the communion wafers." The good news: It'll be taken care of...no matter what it takes. The bad news: "...no matter what it takes." Seems that the textured pattern on the ceiling is muy difficil to repair. They'll give it a whirl, but if it's not to our liking then they will have to scrape the entire first floor ceiling in order to re-apply the texture. It's a four day job without the major face lift for the ceiling. Let's just say we can't begin to imagine how long it will be in the case of "no matter what it takes."

If Grandma Hennebohle was alive and kickin' we'd ask her to say a novena or two. Since she isn't and can't then rub whatever beads you might have handy and wish us luck.

Signs of the Times

Local pols can't give it a break. The last few fumes from the Final Four aren't done whafting through the rafters at the RCA Dome, yet a few eager beavers are already busy planting yard signs. Sarah...need we say more?
