Some of you have already heard that Big Blue, Liz's Cavalier, has bit the dust. And, thank goodness no one was seriously injured (click on picture to enlarge)
. Liz, two other HSE Color Guard girls, and a boy from the percussion section went to the Triton Central Football game on Friday night to hear their band. The weather was pretty rainy. On the way home, the kids got mixed up on I465 circle and ended up on the southwest side of Indianapolis. They finally figured out how to get back home when Liz was driving on the ramp near where I65 and I465 meet to come back home. As she was exiting the ramp, which is a large curve, her car hydroplaned at the bottom of the ramp sending the car spinning in a 360 crossing 4 lanes of traffic and resting against the median.
She called us and was hysterical concerned that someone was seriously injured. A nurse following the car stopped to check on the kids. They were all transported by ambulance to the hospital where all the parents gathered to see how they were. Thank goodness minor injuries compared to what happened to the car. Liz was probably the worse. She has cut up feet from her feet getting caught under the car pedals, burns on her arms from the airbag, a splinted left hand, a pretty nasty seatbelt burn and a sore back and shoulder. They were lucky there was no traffic on the expressway and did not get hit by a truck or car. Juan and I went to the junk yard to see it on Saturday. The impact was so hard the roof has a crease in it. The insurance company scrapped it, so no wheels for Liz. We took out enough clothes and junk in the trunk to clothe a small nation carrying two garbage bags, two backpacks, a cooler, two large sport bags, and her color guard show flag. And each bag was stuffed!
Interestingly, the state trooper told us that there are several accidents in the same spot. Cars hydroplaning. Then when we were at the junk yard, the tow truck driver told us that the state repaved it 8 months ago and water pools at the bottom of the ramp. On rainy days they pick up a couple cars each time in the same location. She was not the only car that night. Hmmmm, the insurance company is checking into that as a possible design flaw.
So Whatcha gonna do with ole blue! I guess crusher, it's done for.
