The weather held off long enough over the weekend to enjoy a dry Saturday and picnic up in Lansing to celebrate Mark's graduation with our friends and family from the region. I was a bit nervous all week hoping that the rain would hold off. It did, but the heat did not. It was very hot and humid.
Thanks to all who were in attendance and made the day a special one for Mark.
Last year when we had Liz's party at Langel's Pizza in Highland, I was hoping Mark would want the same because it was so darn easy to plan. But, Mark did not want to be stuck in a restaurant all day long and asked for a picnic instead. Sarah and Pat agreed to host it in their backyard. I drove from Cincinnati on Friday from a week long conference. Mark was already in Lansing that week and Juan just returned from a trip to Mexico. Mark, Sarah, and Juan were taking care of the yard when I arrived but we all had to go in due to a horrible storm. Saturday arrived and it was
time to run all the food errands before the picnic. Thankfully they have a Sam's Club nearby so Mark and I were off early in the AM to pick of the food.
Juan grilled burgers and hot dogs. I made a great salad as did Sarah and my mom. As a matter of fact, they did all the menu planning on their own. What a hoot! Mom and Sarah got together on Memorial Day and thought about a bunch of salads they had a taste for and then called me that night to announce the menu for Mark's picnic. I was ok with that. Mom made her famous potato salad and Sarah her taco salad. Yum!
We had a couple interesting events occur during the party. First there were 2 other pretty big parties nearby creating an challenging parking dilemma. Then after the backyard was set up for the picnic, the sun moved and all our tables were no longer in the shade. That was ok, we moved them later in the afternoon. The funniest was the birds who must have been ticked about not getting an invitation. I got pooped on once and Dara got pooped on twice. Luckily, mine was on my arm. Not for Dara, she got it twice on her clothes.
It was nice to see so many of our friends and family. Thanks for making the day special for Mark.
